New Work

This is a new piece I am planning to work on while my painting school is on break for 3 weeks. Using the same background as the previous piece with the variety of glass bottles, I wanted to do a variety of white items. Ranging from sea shells to a large mixing bowl the breadth of color in "white" things is amazing.

I did a 1/2 scale drawing in pencil to capture the shapes and relationships. Then I enlarged it and pieced it back together; transferred it to the canvas and outlined it in thin color. Next I wiped off the charcoal and started the underpainting. The goal of the underpainting is two-fold; Cover the white of the canvas and to get the colors and tones right.

Glass painting finished!!

After a couple of months of struggle, my painting of a variety of glass containers is finished. Here are the progression shots. The piece actually came together easily enough once my teacher helped me get the base purple right (hint: Terra rosa and Ultramarine blue with a touch of white make a very nice neutral-ish violet) A final shot to come...
